The Victorian Middle and Long Distance championships were held on the weekend of 16-17 September in forest close to Creswick. Both events featured a mixture of terrain types, with detailed gold-mining terrain providing some serious navigational challenges. Due to rain on the preceding Friday, Slaty Creek was flowing freely and everyone got wet feet at some stage of their courses.
Twenty-seven Yarra Valley members participated and many found themselves on the podium at presentation time, some twice. Those who won their class are as follows:
Middle distance (Saturday): Ashley White M10, Brody McCarthy M16, Glen White M40, Ted van Geldermalsen M60, Ruth Goddard W70, Alex Tarr M75 and Graeme Cadman M80.
Long distance (Sunday): Ashley White M10, Brody McCarthy M16, Glen White M40, Blair Trewin M45, Cormac McCarthy M55 short, Ruth Goddard W70, Alex Tarr M75, Graeme Cadman M80 and Heather O’Donnell Open B Long.
